Q: What should I expect during my first visit to Massage Medic?
.
A:
On your first visit to Massage Medic you will fill out a health history form and give any insurance information you have available. Your therapist will then ask you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on and if there are any existing conditions that need to be addressed. Your massage therapist may also perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition as deemed necessary.
Q: Where will my massage session take place?
.
A:
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
Q: What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
.
A:
Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
Q: What do I wear during the massage?
.
A:
Depending on what treatment is being done, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you should only undress to your level of comfort. Your therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and/or blanket at all times except the area being worked on.
Q: How long does a massage last?
.
A:
One hour massage sessions consist of 5 minutes of therapist consultation, 50 minutes of hands on massage and 5 minutes of dressing. However, you may schedule your massage for 1 hour, 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour sessions.
Q: What are the benefits of massage?
.
A:
Massage can help relieve chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce stress as well as mental and physical fatigue, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture and reduce blood pressure. It is also common to experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity after a massage. Furthermore, massage promotes better sleep, improved concentration, reduced anxiety and creates an overall sense of well-being.
Q: What is the difference between medical massage and other types of massage therapy?
.
A:
Clients who get medical massage usually have one or two specific areas of pain to be worked on during the session. Other techniques such as ultrasound or e-stem therapy may also be used to treat these problem areas. Other types of massage focus on the body in its entirety, rather than one or two main areas.
Q: What types of medical conditions can massage treat?
.
A:
Medical massage has been effective in treating and eliminating chronic pain for those who suffer from migraines, sciatica, neck/back pain, muscle spasms, whiplash, tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, stress, fibromialgia, rotator cuff injuries, post-surgery healing, pulled/torn muscles and tendons, and other various types of sports injuries and medical conditions.
Q: How many treatments will I need to see results?
.
A:
Many patients experience immediate pain relief after their first massage. However, the number of sessions you will need to achieve optimum results depends on the person and the type of condition being treated. After your first session, you and your therapist will discuss a proposed treatment plan tailored to meet your needs.
